The American Story, started with our trip to Boston, why were the colonists upset? England had increased taxes and the colonists were fed up. A conflict followed with the Revolutionary War. The colonists then saw a need to declare independence and in 1776, the Declaration of Independence was created and signed. We were introduced to the first 18 presidents. The first six were the founding Fathers, next 6 manifesting destiny with expanding to California then the great compromise with the next 6 presidents that lead to the issue with Federal government telling what each independent state had to do. The issue of slavery is always portrayed as the top reason why the Civil War began. The Civil war erupted and the North wins with Abraham Lincoln, assassinated. The Transcontinental Railway, gold rush to follow with the settling of the West. The kids bartered for what they needed in the gold rush days. Our last stop was the Hall of Presidents to tie in all we had covered ended with a ceremony of ringing the Liberty Bell thirteen times for the thirteen colonies. Hip Hip HOORAY! We all shouted.
