Myakka River State Park

We traveled to West Central Florida to the Myakka River State Park. We drove down the 7 mile road to a bridge, and saw 11, twelve foot American alligators sunning themselves on the beach. We view them with a an up close telescope and binoculars. We saw Rosette Spoonbill, tri-color heron, a small blue heron and the great Blue Heron, which all these herons on not related. We stopped at the Canopy trail where we saw 3 different kinds of air-plants/ephitytes. The butterfly, ball moss and cardinal. We saw an abundance of the resurrection fern on giant oaks.
We climbed the walkway which is 25 ft up and 100 ft. long, only 4 people at a time. It was like you were climbing a rocking rope ladder. It creek, cracked and swayed in the wind. We walked up the 75 ft. tower to see the forest canopy of Cabbage palms and Oaks. In the distance we could see the upper Myakka Lake and the Lower Myakka lake connecting with the river. There were large wasps everywhere at the top of the tower. We traveled to the gift shop and found a golden
silk orb weaver, aka banana spider.

Thanksgiving

We are thankful to the Lord for he has been so good to us. We feasted with friends, the Randall family and gave thank to God who has given the bounty to us.

Animal Tracks-Tibet Butler

Tracking Animals, that is what we did today. We learned about differences between a dog and a cat tracks.
Dogs have claws known as digits that mark on sand or snow and cats have retractable claws that don't show on the track. We identified raccoon, possum, deer, and others. We found raccoon tracks on our 30 minute hike.
We also learned about Likens and the beauty they have. Deer like to eat this plant.

Orange Picking

In the groves of Florida, we tasted fresh pick oranges and got very sticky! Yes! Florida Oranges are juicy and sweet. We purchased some of our favorite kinds yellow tangerine, giant pumbelo and yellow grapefruit. We tasted kumquats off the trees and saw rows upon rows of orange trees that have different seasons for picking. Great day in the orange grove park!
