May 17th End of the School Year Awards Bnai Yisrael Yeshiva

The end of the year Awards were presented on May 17 at Bnia Yisrael Yeshiva. This year Jillian and Dayna presented projects on Social Studies, The History of the US Virgin Islands and in Science, The Life Cycle of a Monarch Butterfly. Both students received A Awards for Word building, English and Math. As parents and as there teachers we are very proud of the hard and diligence in there work. 2008-2009 School Year is completed and Jillian and Dayna are now officially 7th and 5th Graders. May the Lord continues to bless you and show favor to you both. Love Dad and Mom.

Jillian Turns 12 May 14th

A free day at Epcot. A birthday celebration for Jillian with her friend, Victoria and her Mommy.
We had a full day at Future world with a few Kim Possible Missions at the World Showcase. A great day. Happy Birthday Jillian!

St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum

Sea, Sail and Service was the theme of the Homeschool days at the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Museum. We enjoyed four stations that revolved around the American Revolution. We heard and stories of the continental navy up in Pascataway, Maine fighting against the British. We learned marina vocabulary such as a "Jack" as in Union Jack that would fly on the bow of the ship. The ensign flies at the stern. We learned how to remember the difference between port and starboard,
both left and port have four letters. We were taught the sounds of the bosmans whistle and the drum calls that were used on ships for communication, because of the noise of the ocean on a ship these calls were important for giving orders. We were introduced to the First Flags of the US, Grand Union Flag and the history of the coast gaurd and the Marines. We finished our tour with a 219 step climb up the lighthouse to enjoy the view of St. Augustine. Our blessing of the day was the Nina and the Pinta were docked at the marina where we could go on board and experience the 15 Century caraval cargo ship like Columbus did for three voyages.

BUG Day with Da-Bug-Dude

May 12 we were sharing with the Bnia Yisrael Yeshiva about the amazing world of insects.
David shared his bug knowledge about what makes an insect? It need 6 legs, 3 body parts, head, thorax and abdomen. We looked at the anatomy of a beetle and the hard exoskeleton and membranous wings and why Ladybugs are not bugs they are lady beetles. Many bugs are not bugs at all like the pill bug. He has more than 6 legs and one body part.
We talked about fire ants and watched short movie clips about them moving the colony on the river, causing electrical problems at traffic lights or other household items, shorting them out.
We introduced bees and talked about the queen, worker and drone. How the queen can sting several times and the worker gives his life for the colony if he stings. We talked about Proverbs 6:6, don't be a slugger, consider the ways of the ant. and other bible verses. Lastly we watched a Black Swallowtail Butterfly complete metamorphosis on a short video. Beautiful and amazing!

Beach Days End of School FUN!

We enjoyed a few beach trips. One to the Gulf of Mexico south of Tampa at Treasure Island.
We enjoyed Israeli Independence Day on May 3. That night we drove to Fernandina Beach to visit Ya Ya and Uncle Ben.

Kissimmee Fun Spot

On April 23 we spent a few hours at the new Fun Spot in Kissimmee. Our 11 year old, almost 12 Jillian was able to drive her first go-kart. She did well. We also enjoyed bumper cars, giant slide and the screamer. The tall ride of the night was the double Ferris wheel.
